Fans Urge Custody of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are calling for that a person who jumped a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two distinct characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful movie of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, earning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
