Los Angeles Erupts in Celebration as Los Angeles Dodgers Secure Back-to-Back World Series Championship
Los Angeles experienced citywide festivities after the Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-match World Series title. Fans across the globe united with Angelenos in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved consecutive championships.
Victory Parade Draws Enormous Crowds
Los Angeles area celebrations featured a procession through the city center on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Social media videos depict countless of Los Angeles residents flooding city center avenues, many displaying handmade banners and team flags. The team was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, raising the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the players emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Celebrations started well before the procession, with supporters setting off fireworks in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the win.
“We refuse to lose,” he said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
In contrast, the team owner was met with a less warm reception at the rally. Recordings from the event appear to show Walter walking onstage to a mix of applause and boos, with negative shouts punctuating his address.
The World Series acted as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An estimated 225,000 people showed up to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to team member one athlete, fans this year demonstrated as much if not more support.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” Freeman said. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
