My feeling was I got a touch - Carey on review reprieve.

Australia gloveman Alex Carey revealed he felt he had nicked the ball when he was given not out on DRS on day one of the 3rd Ashes series Test against the English.

After surviving on 72, Carey proceeded to score a fine 106 to aid the home side reach 326-8 at the stumps in the Adelaide Oval.

The Incident

Australia were 245-6 when Carey looked to play a cut to the bowling of Josh Tongue.

The England team appealed confidently, certain they had heard an nick, but on-field official Ahsan Raza gave it not out.

Following skipper Ben Stokes referred the decision, the footage examined by third umpire Chris Gaffaney showed a significant spike although this registered before the ball had passed the bat.

Gaffaney added he believed there was a clearance between the bat and the ball.

Consequently, Carey was reprieved.

"I felt a little noise as the ball went past," said Carey.

"If I was given out I think I would have reviewed it, probably not confidently. It made a convincing sound near the bat."

Controversial 'Snicko'

Discussion has swirled about 'Snicko'' during the series after a number of inconclusive moments.

Bowling coach David Saker suggested England may escalate this most recent incident further with match referee Jeff Crowe.

"I don't think we've done anything about it so far but after today, maybe that might go a bit further," Saker remarked.

"It's been a worry for us all series long. The focus should be on cricket, not technology failures. It is what it is."

Emotional Century

The ton was his first in Ashes cricket.

It was also an emotional moment for Carey, whose dad passed away in September. His spouse was crying in the crowd as the batter marked the occasion by looking to the skies.

"Scoring a century at home with family watching was incredible," said Carey.

"The reason for my look upwards is clear. I'm trying not to tear up. It was a fantastic feeling."

History of Controversy

Carey is not new to Ashes controversy.

He was the wicketkeeper who notoriously dismissed Jonny Bairstow at Lord's Cricket Ground in the 2023 Ashes series, resulting in a intense final day.

Speaking about his survival he continued: "The technology clearly wasn't synchronized. It is just the way cricket goes - sometimes you have a bit of luck."

"Maybe it went my way."
