Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to suspend refugee claims and halt issuing visas to holders of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” he informed the crowd at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
