Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
