The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
